Letters to the Editor /" "'"'""'//.-'----- percent of its current budget in ;il ".. state funding for next year. ;- Although the budget --:-. process will not actually begin until is March, the district One of those times To the Editor: Here are the facts regarding the impact of Measure 30 on the Condon School District. If Measure 30 passes, the school district gets to keep $153,506 in state funding for the 2004- 05 budget. If it fails, the district loses $153,506, or 6.5 anticipating having to make cuts in the 2004-05 budget due to $286,000 in projected lost funding resulting from ESD equalization and declining enrollment. With the $ ! 53,506 available, fewer reductions in staff and programs will be necessary to balance the budget. Conversely, losing the $153,506 will undoubtedly mean additional cuts to both staff and an educational program that has already lost music, art, four employees, ten days of instruction, full-time kindergarten and funding for spring sports. It is this potential negative impact on the district's educational programs that caused the Condon school board to adopt a resolution at last week's meeting, urging the community and district patrons, parents and staff to support Measure 30. Neither our schools nor our community can afford the reductions that may be necessary if Measure 30 fails. By the time you read this letter, you should have received an informational flyer from the district with showing the average cost to income tax most of us, it is a amount that can huge benefit for our our community and And if the economy " the tax goes away years. No one wants to taxes, but there are benefit to be gained or t to be avoided far cost of the additional is one of those times.
